The ModKat Litter Box

So yeah, litter boxes. Ick, I know. But stay with me…I promise this is also about design! I mentioned the Modkat Litter Box here in January, and I wanted to write about how great it is a little bit more. Our little black kitties are the best ever (if you follow me on Instagram I’m sure you’ve seen their cuteness!) and are very adaptable. We use wheat litter only (good for them and not bad for the environment) and they actually share a litter box. This isn’t usually recommended (but they are brother and sister and have always shared a litter box, at the shelter and all of their foster homes). They are super dependent on each other and don’t mind the “closeness”.

In any case, the design of the ModKat is genius! You can check out more detailed information on their website, but the kitties actually jump down into the litter box and then jump back up. There is absolutely not one grain of wheat anywhere! We joke all the time that the only wheat we ever vacuum up anymore is the wheat we spill while scooping! And there is no smell. We scoop at least once a day, but because the box itself is deep and tall, no smell ever really escapes. Sure it’s a very expensive litter box (we actually bought it around Christmas when they had a $50 off coupon), but the best part? They offer a 30-day money back guarantee.

Oh and the design…it’s actually beautiful! In fact, I bet if I hadn’t talked about what it was in the Laundry Room post, no one would have noticed. We have a white one that seamlessly blends into the area in front of the utility sink and it’s a breeze to scoop and even to take out the insert and clean it all the way (we do this once a month). I can’t believe this thing is actually a litterbox! ModKo really thought of absolutely everything. The box is so pretty you could have it in an open location or in a spare bathroom and no one would think anything of it, seriously. So sleek and modern…no wonder the shipping box is printed with their slogan, “Where modern cats do their business.” Indeed.

Oh and for all you doggie lovers, ModKo is coming out with products for you soon as listed here. I bet we’ll be seeing a lot more fantastically designed products from them in the future!

We have two (large) cats–12 years old already–and we are begining to have “issues” with the litter box. In fact, I just had to purhase a second one. I’m a total cheapskate though. I wish I knew what caused them to do such things outside of the box!?!? YUCK! I’m gratful our boxes are in the basement. But still!

Awww…12 years old, that’s amazing. But, yuck. Yeah well that’s partly why I’m so excited about this litter box! We just had a regular one before and even though they always shared, she hated touching the litter and no kidding, would stand with all four legs on the edges and use it. And she didn’t always “hit the mark” and of course she never covered her business, leaving her brother to literally do the dirty work. So after maybe 2 years of that nonsense, that was one of the reasons we even remotely considered such an expensive box (plus the money back was essential). I can’t believe that she would rather climb down into a litter box to use it, frankly, but she does! I’m totally with you on the yuck factor. Since our litter box is right inside the door of the laundry room, I don’t know how many times I stepped in the yuck! You’re lucky about that basement! :-)

I looked at these when I first got my cats, I was concerned about them actually getting in. They do look cool tho!

Hi Melissa! Yeah, I was kind of concerned too (my one cat is kind of, well, strange), but I did a lot of research and watched videos of other cats, so I thought I would try it. Plus the fact I had a coupon and there was a 30-day return policy helped too! Both my cats immediately started using it (I continued to use the same wheat litter) and we have had, seriously, not one issue since January! :-)
