As I mentioned here, my Carl will be giving me a word of the day every Tuesday to write about. Yes, I know today is Sunday, but I figured I might as well write about it today while I had a chance.
As usual, my Carl gave me a humdinger of a word.
Secrets!
Ha! So instead of going on and on about that word and what it means to me, instead I’ll tell you the first thing that popped into my head – book cover design! Mostly because I remember reading about the beautiful book covers that had recently been produced for The Secret Garden.
So I’ll leave you with images two books that I must own (just for their covers)! One is cloth bound and has vibrant color that I need to design a room around! And the other is hand-illustrated and then stitched using a needle and thread and the book covers are created in such a way so that the you can feel the “stitches”!

I think it’s particularly interesting that each book designer created such unique and very different covers, each with their own feel for the exact same book. The vibrant colors in one create a very modern but vintage feel and the shade of blue and mustard are similar to this book, so of course I love everything about the design! And the idea of stitching a book cover and then creating the same authentic feel for the reader?! So excited to see that needle arts are becoming a little more mainstream!
