Creative Project – Embroidery

I always like to “stitch” something while we are watching television or a movie and relaxing (even if it’s not actually stitching, but cross stitch or needlepoint). I’m not sure which one I like the best (I like each one for it’s own reasons) and I’ve done both since I was a kid. I’ve never worked with embroidery, but I’ve always been kind of curious about it. Of course, I certainly don’t need another creative project between now and the holidays. Sheesh! But. I saw a mention of this awesome embroidered tea towel that is a 2012 calendar on Design*Sponge and I just knew my Mom would love it. It is just cool and creative (although I broke my own rule mentioned here, when ordering a creative kit, make sure you check the size!) So yeah, it’s a little bigger than I thought, but I think I can still finish it in time for Christmas (although it might require a lot late-night-coffee-drinking-while-watching-cozy-movies), ahem! Anyway, check out the artist’s website for additional step-by-step instructions with enlarged pictures to walk you through each type of stitch. I have never embroidered before (although the back stitch is similar to the back stitch in cross stitching), and I was probably stitching within 10 minutes. I’ll post pictures when I’m done! So what else are you all working on when watching something else?
