Me and You and Everyone We Know

I’m sure you know what I’m talking about with this title. No?! You have to watch this movie! Please!

So first, the back story of how I saw this movie…I love independent movies, but since we moved to the Midwest, I haven’t seen that many. There is an independent movie theater that is great and is pretty close, but they usually only show each movie for less than 1 week, so by the time we finally have time to see a movie, we’ve missed it! Anyway, a few years ago my husband brought some videos at a store that was going out of business. To be honest, I think we probably down-sized almost all of our DVD  collection when we did this, unless they were sentimental (given and/or received as a gift) or also likely to be watched again. So Me and You and Everyone We Know made the cut. It is an amazing movie, in story, characters, and especially the way it is shot and edited. Every scene has a dreamy cast of light (maybe it’s just the light of reality) that sometimes makes it hard to watch (on behalf of the characters), but really, you can’t turn away. It is truly a brilliant piece of film making.

A few years later, when her book No one belongs here more than you. was published, of course my husband bought it for me! I can’t say enough about this book. It’s a collection of short stories where all the characters resonate (for me) and all have very complex and yet oddly similar predicaments.

I could go on and on about how amazing I think Miranda July is and so very unique in the world. I tell you all this to also say she has a new movie out, The Future and also a new book, It Chooses You. Please go see the movie and buy her book! I promise you won’t be disappointed (and come back and tell me your opinion!)
