Creative Project – Needlepoint

I really think design is in all things and when I say “design” here I don’t just mean interior design; I mean “the design of things.” So it’s with that in mind that I would like to show you what I’m currently working on. I’ll be making this a regular feature because I’m always working on something! I don’t know if I would call myself a true “crafter,” but I do like to work with my hands and I almost always have several needlepoint and cross stitch (and now crewel!) projects in process along with learning how to sew.

About a year or so ago, I saw this needlepoint that I just had to have! Isn’t it beautiful?!

This original needlepoint kit comes from Felicity Hall – Contemporary Needlepoint and is a truly an amazing and unique design based on vintage objects. The colors are timeless and also on trend; chocolate brown and blue, yes please! You might wonder two things at this point, first, did you say a year ago? Yes, I did (it’s the size of a large pillow and while I appreciate the vignettes of objects that make stitching faster and more satisfying, it’s still a very large piece), and two, what the heck is needlepoint, anyway? Here’s a nice definition for you and no, it’s not only something your Grandma did (or maybe still does)!

Needlepoint is full of design possibilities and thanks to Jonathan Adler needlepoint pillows are back in fashion and completely acceptable to add a certain vintage, but modern design element to any room!

Can’t you see these pillows coordinating with the pillow above if I ever finish?!

(Note: I wasn’t perked by Felicity Hall for this post! I purchased her needlepoint kit myself and all views on this subject are my own; it’s really a great kit!)

(Also note: An update (the next day)! She now has the most beautiful needlepoint clutches I think I have ever seen! I am partial to the bird and peony pattern, of course…although the peacock pattern does have one side that is bright pink! One of these will be my next project, for sure!)
